the three-legged dog - The Appearance of a Strange Friend(2/6)

 This is the second chapter of the short story I wrote called 'The Three-Legged Dog'. Please enjoy reading it. 



On a peaceful Sunday afternoon, a truck loaded with a huge box pulled up to Jake's house. His father, with a particularly excited expression, opened the front door and welcomed his visitor.


"Come on, Jake! Come say hello. He’s your best friend, and he'll be your friend from now on." 


​What slowly walked out of the box was a humanoid robot with a sleek, silver-white body. On its chest was a name tag that read 'RECTFACE,' and on the screen in front of its face, yellow, smiling eyes appeared. 


​"Hi, Jake. I'm RECTface, your learning and safety assistant." 


A hard, mechanical sound echoed through the yard. Jake touched the robot's arm, curious, but Cooper, who was nearby, reacted differently. Uncharacteristically, Cooper tucked his tail between his legs and growled softly. The metallic smell he instinctively sensed seemed unfamiliar. 


​"Dad, we have Cooper. He plays with me a lot."


At Jake's words, Dad chuckled and patted Cooper's head, but his eyes remained serious.

 

​"Jake, Cooper is a good friend. But he can't help you with your homework or logically protect you in dangerous situations. This RECTface is equipped with the latest artificial intelligence, so it perfectly learns human behavior and calculates everything you need in advance to help you. 


As Dad had hoped, Rectface was amazing. Before Jake even packed his bag, it had everything he needed for school perfectly organized, and when he played in the yard, it analyzed Jake's movements and suggested the most efficient exercise path. 


But Jake felt a little strange. Rectface caught Jake's throws much faster and more accurately than Cooper, but when he returned the ball, he didn't stick out his tongue or wag his tail in excitement like Cooper did. He simply stared blankly at Jake, waiting for his next command.


"RECTface, can't you have a little more... fun, like Cooper?"


RECTface’s eyes blinked soullessly at Jake's question.

Do you have someone who comes to mind when you see something? For me, there's a woman who comes to mind whenever I see cocoa. With my persistent personality, I didn't move and just studied in the library. Lively concert stage

  I drew a lively concert stage using pixel art. First, I drew a simple stage. Next, I drew the performers. Two are dancing, and two more are in the background, livening up the atmosphere. Speakers were placed on the left and right sides of the stage.  Since the audience was dark and hard to see, I drew only their shapes in black.
