A Short Story About a Painter Who Was Frustrated by AI's Painting Skills
Recently, AI has been wreaking havoc in all fields. This is a short creative story about a painter who was deeply frustrated by AI's painting skills.
Part 1. It'll Be Okay.
Tom is a painter who uses his brush to capture the beauty of the world and the profound emotions within it on canvas. His paintings are renowned for their ability to convey inner stories through the eyes of their subjects. His paintings have the power to move the hearts of their viewers.
One day, a news story on TV shook his thinking.
"A cutting-edge AI painter wins top prize at an international exhibition... challenging the realm of human painters."
Tom laughed to himself.
"Can a machine truly understand the essence of art?"
He still believed that his studio, filled with the scent of brushes and paints, was the true space of art.
Part 2. He can't believe AI's so good at painting.
But when he saw the AI-generated paintings, Tom's arrogance crumbled in an instant. In just a few seconds, the paintings poured out with remarkable precision and a variety of styles. Minho was astonished by the speed and precision that surpassed human limitations. He couldn't help but admit that the AI had surpassed him, especially in his specialty, "expressing emotions."
From that day on, Tom's studio fell silent. Even when he raised a brush in front of a canvas, his hands trembled. The skills and sensibilities he had dedicated his entire life to cultivating suddenly felt meaningless.
"What difference is there between the paintings I paint and those AI could create in 10 seconds?"
This question kept coming to mind. Frustration cast a deep shadow over his mind, and his very identity as an artist was shaken.
Part 3. I Will Keep Painting!
One day, after days of gathering dust in a corner of his studio, unable to even lift a brush, Tom suddenly remembered a memory from his childhood. Those were the happy moments of crouching, clumsily drawing with crayons on dirty paper. Back then, he wasn't striving for perfection. He simply sought to express the stories in his heart.
AI could create perfect shapes and colors, but he realized that the excitement and anxiety he felt while drawing, the enlightenment gained through countless failures, and the thrill of finally completing a painting could not be replicated. AI creates the finished product, but humans live the process with their whole being. Tom realized that art is not simply a product, but a journey filled with the experiences and reflections of a living being.
Slowly and carefully, Tom picked up his brush again. Now, he would move beyond perfection or competition with AI to paint paintings that captured his honest emotions and life experiences. Each brushstroke would contain the story of a human overcoming setbacks and rising again. His paintings would become a story unique to "Tom the human," a story that AI could never capture. His canvas began to be filled with vibrant colors once again.
