 This video and instructions explain how to use the pen tool in the Vector Ink app on your smartphone.


The pen tool is essential for drawing objects of any shape. To create your desired image with Vector Ink, you must be proficient in using the pen tool.

Determine the points where the curve will be drawn using the pen tool function.

To use the Pen Tool, select the Pen Tool menu on the left. Then, tap the screen to set the starting point for drawing a curve.

Tapping a different location sets the next point. The previous point is connected by a straight line.

Tapping the next point and holding down the screen while moving will connect the two points by a curve. A "handle" will appear, allowing you to adjust the shape of the curve.

The direction of the "handle" indicates the direction in which the curve extends from that point. The length of the "handle" indicates how far it extends in that direction.

Tapping the starting point will connect the starting point with a straight line. The curve will close, creating a single shape.

To adjust the shape of the curve, select the second menu item from the top left.

After selecting a point, drag your finger pressing the screen to change its position.

To adjust the shape of the curve at a specific point, select the point and select the leftmost option in the menu below. From the resulting screen, select the "Joint" option. 

If you select the second icon, the "handles" on both sides of the curve will point in exactly opposite directions, while maintaining the same size.

If you select the third icon, the "handles" on both sides of the curve will point in exactly opposite directions, but you can adjust their sizes individually.

If you select the fourth icon, you can adjust the size and direction of both "handles" individually. 


Change the position and color of objects, etc.

To change an object's position, color, and other settings, select the menu at the top left.

With an object selected, press and drag your finger across the screen to change its position.

The menus at the top right of the screen allow you to change the color of the object's body and outline.


 Once you're familiar with these features, you'll be able to draw most objects using the pen tool. Get familiar with the features.

I drew a simple log in pixel art. Use it as a reference when you draw logs. I drew this on a 32-pixel square canvas. First, I drew the cross-section of the log. I drew it as a circle with a diameter of 13 pixels.  Copy half of the circle and move it upwards, then draw a vertical line to make the length of the log.  I painted the cross-section of the log brown. I then drew the rings, an important characteristic of the tree, in light brown. I drew them as circles with a diameter of 7 pixels.    I painted the trunk section a slightly lighter color than the cross-section, and drew straight lines in a lighter brown.  I drew a vending machine using isometric pixel art. It's a practice exercise for isometric basics.  To draw isometric pixel art, keep the following in mind: When drawing lines that are vertical or parallel to the horizon, draw them two spaces wide and one space high. First, draw the ground. Draw the two lines of a square (two spaces wide and one space high).  Copy the two lines and move them to create the height of the ground.  Copy the two lines again. Flip it horizontally and then vertically, then move it to draw the remaining two lines of the rectangle. Draw a square on the bottom of the vending machine in the same way.    Copy and move the rectangle, then draw vertical lines to create height.
