A near-accident at the swimming pool
A near-accident at the swimming pool when I was young
Part 1. The Exciting Pool
"Yay! It's a pool!"
I shouted excitedly. My friends were excited too. We were playing in the water, which was about ten feet deep. Michael said to me,
"Tom, you go in. If you stay still, you can float."
Michael was thinking about lying still in the water when he said that.
"Really?"
I hesitated to try it when I heard that. Then James told me to go in too. I decided to go.
Part 2. A Dangerous Attempt
I grabbed the ladder and descended. It was so deep I couldn't even see the bottom.
After immersing myself in the cold water, I let go of the ladder and stretched my arms skyward.
My body slowly sank.
I stayed still, but my body continued to sink. My friends sensed something was wrong. As I flailed my arms and struggled, they grabbed my sinking hands and pulled me out of the water.
Part 3. A Bad Attempt
My friends asked me with worried expressions.
"Tom! Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. It's only been a few seconds since I entered the water."
After reassuring them, I asked Michael.
"I stayed still. Why didn't I float?"
